Caregiving & Working Women
A corporate Employee Resource Group (ERG) invited me onto a panel to discuss the ways that caregiving affects women in the workplace. Fellow panelists brought up feeling unseen or overwhelmed as parents and employees; I presented data on women who care for adult family members while working (including those in the "sandwich generation" who are also parenting), the unconscious gendering of care responsibilities, and the backslide of gender equality reported during the COVID-19 lockdown. We then reviewed strategies for improving flexibility with managers.
